“Allah is He Who created the heavens and the earth and sent down water from the clouds, then brought forth with it fruits as a sustenance for you, and He has made the ships subservient to you to run their course in the sea by His command, and He has made the rivers subservient to you. And He has made subservient to you the sun and the moon, pursuing their courses; and He has made subservient to you the night and the day. And He gives you of all you ask of Him. And if you count Allah’s favours, you will not be able to number them. Surely man is very unjust, very ungrateful.” –Holy Qur’an, Surah 14, verses 32-34
Following an interval of several years, I was headed, once again, across the Pacific Ocean to the country of New Zealand to meet with some of our extended family and friends among the Maori People and Nation. They are politically and culturally identified as, “A Nation within a Nation,” as we, too, are identified as “A Nation within a Nation” inside of America.
We will explore other parallels in this series of articles that join us together in the bonds of Universal Brotherhood. What part did Master W. Fard Muhammad play in traveling the world in preparing the steps for our emergence as a Nation and as a People within the Families of Nations, to be accepted and received as a lost returning Member the world over?
So many questions arose in my mind as I boarded my flight the evening of February 3 from Los Angeles on my way to Auckland, the capital of Aotearoa, New Zealand, where the population is perhaps a little over 4,000,000, with close to 1,000,000 Indigenous Maori. Traveling nearly 13 hours can be quite an ordeal, especially when all of the seats were filled to capacity traveling in coach.
When I arrived, I was graciously received at the airport by my host, June Jackson, one of those fabled and hardworking Maori women, who is a well-known social activist for the Maori Cause. She was flanked by other outstanding individuals in her family, which included her late husband and Tribal Genealogist Bob Jackson, their son William Jackson, and Uncle Cid Jackson, brother of Bob Jackson to name a few.
After settling in her beautiful home, surrounded by orchards and beautifully landscaped forestry overlooking the bay in the distance, she wanted me to know that she offered the hospitality of her home as my base whenever I visited New Zealand. She added that this offer was also being made to the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and his family and all the members of the Nation of Islam. She made this offer to reciprocate the kindness that she received from us on the occasion of her first visit to the Nation of Islam many years ago.
Among the many talks we had, the idea reiterated many times was her expression of friendship and solidarity with us in our struggle for freedom and justice, which took on many surprising and rewarding perspectives of future relations of cooperation between our two peoples working together. The Saviour’s Promise to us of “Good Homes and Friendship in all Walks of Life” is constantly being fulfilled. As the Qur’anic verse states: “And if you count Allah’s favours, you will not be able to number them.”
Within a few days of my arrival, I visited the Auckland Museum and viewed a stage production of a Maori Theater Dance and Song presentation in the museum’s auditorium. Following the performance, which included a demonstration of the warrior positions, called haka–which exhibit stern facial expressions and gestures intended to startle and terrorize an approaching enemy–I asked the group leader to explain the meaning of Pakeha, the name given to all White New Zealanders. One of the definitions he gave was “white ghost,” derived from his pale skin color and distinct appearance from the Original People.
Through my travels abroad, I have quickly learned that straight words in describing the appearance and actions of this last race to emerge from among the Original People and Nations of our Planet is most fitting, as they have produced unparalleled heart-wrenching devastation, leaving a terrible and foul stench of death wherever they have gone as conqueror and ruler. They have reduced our numbers on the Planet, in the short period of their rule, by billions of lives and continue to enslave our many peoples by their cruel touch and scent of evil and death.
The feeding tube has been removed, until we have experienced almost irreversible brain damage. Not only have we, as a people and a nation, been torn from our Mother’s breast, separated and cut off from our own on the continent of Africa, but we have been reduced to the condition of mental slaves by our former slavemasters and are unable to recognize our other family members throughout the world, because we have been made to think that we are all different.
My journey to New Zealand reinforced for me, once again, the breadth of the Divine Teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, restoring us as One Universal Family, being reunited with our own in this Time of the Mental Resurrection of the Dead and the Final Judgment of this World. In my journeys around the Globe, I have come face-to-face with kith and kin, so that we no longer see ourselves as the minority, but as the majority being restored to our Universal Nation and Brotherhood of the Righteous all over the Planet Earth.
In every aspect of my visit with the Jackson family, I recognized the genealogy of a proud people, centered around the proverbial Mother figure–in this case, June Jackson, as central Mother of the Tribe, activist in the Prison Reform of her people, interacting with government, fighting for the rights of her people, along with her deceased husband, Bob Jackson, son William Jackson, one time Parliament Member and currently manager of Urban Maori Radio, Waatea. He and his former wife and dear friend, Moana Maniapoto Jackson, a leading New Zealand vocalist, lyricist and educator, produced a son, named Elijah, adding to their own genealogical tree, being so named in honor of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. He is now 14 years old and is an extended family member with a great and powerful future, Insha-Allah.
“So think not that Allah will fail in His promise to His messengers. Surely Allah is Mighty, the Lord of retribution. On the day when the earth will be changed into a different earth, and the heavens (as well), and they will come forth to Allah, the One, the Supreme.” –Holy Qur’an, Surah 14, verses 47, 48
To be continued.
