Chicago’s Margaret Mahdi is the founder and artistic director of the Mahdi Theatre Company. The theater is returning with a performance after a three-year hiatus with an original drama, “A Soldier’s Daughter.”

“The basis of the story represents love, obedience, and sacrifice. The main character, Lewis, has to make a decision to either choose her dream that she’s had since a child which is finally coming into fruition or relinquish that to care for a loved one, her dad,” Ms. Mahdi said.

She continued, “It’s really a story about one willing to sacrifice self for the need or care of someone else. Allah (God) gives us our gifts, our talents but sometimes we could be so caught up in the rapture of our gifts and then sometimes He’ll put something else in our life to see a character check. Are you willing to put this to the side for something that may be more worthy so that you could build into a better human being?”

“A Soldier’s Daughter,” will showcase seasoned local actors and actresses that Ms. Mahdi says were picked by Allah to perform each character role.
