Díaz-Canel received Chen Zhou, vice-chief of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China
“Welcome to our country,” said the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, on May 13 afternoon, with the emphasis he dedicates to true friends, upon receiving the deputy head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Chen Zhou.
The president told the Asian leader that his visit to the largest of the Antilles confirms the excellent state of political relations between the two friendly nations; he stressed that both countries maintain a fluid exchange of visits at the highest level; and asked to convey his warm greetings to the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping.
The Cuban dignitary stressed the sensitivity shown by his counterpart and by the Communist Party of China to Cuba and to the difficult times the Caribbean country is going through, and later referred to concrete support from the People’s Republic of China, including financing, which has made it possible to carry out more than one important project for the archipelago.
In this regard, Díaz-Canel stressed that this attitude of accompanying and supporting is a gesture “that only great friends, great brothers and sisters make.”
It is something, he emphasized, that increases the admiration towards the sister nation, and especially towards the Chinese Communist Party. It is a gesture that demonstrates the greatness and solidarity capacity of the Asian people, he added.
“We are convinced—the Head of State stressed—that, with the exchanges we have had in all these years, our relations will continue to advance.”
For his part, the visiting friend thanked Díaz-Canel for having received him, despite having a very tight work schedule, and extended to the host the greetings of President Xi Jinping.
Chen Zhou told Díaz-Canel that his visit to the largest of the Antilles is aimed at putting into practice the consensus reached and providing political support to the Caribbean country.
The cordial meeting was attended by the member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Party, Roberto Morales Ojeda; and Emilio Lozada García, head of the Department of International Relations. Both had previously held exchanges with Chen Zhou. (Granma)
