BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—On October 8, Muslims from Muhammad Mosque No. 69 in Birmingham, Alabama, local pastors and community advocates delivered remarks during a reading of “The Day of Atonement Proclamation.” The proclamation was originally issued in October 2023 by the city of Birmingham.

Student Minister James Muhammad delivered closing comments on reconciliation and conflict resolution before the city council and Mayor Randall Woodfin. Sister Niah, a student at Muhammad University of Islam, Birmingham, recited sections from the Proclamation.

The session was webcast live and aired throughout the city. Students from Muhammad University of Islam in Birmingham also attended.

Student Minister James spoke on the miracle and mission of The Million Man March called by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan on October 16, 1995, when nearly two million Black men gathered on the mall in Washington, D.C., under the theme of Atonement, Reconciliation and Responsibility.

The believers in Birmingham also participated in a nationwide Day of Service to commemorate the 29th Anniversary of the Million Man March and Holy Day of Atonement. Brothers delivered copies of The Final Call newspaper.

They also distributed personal hygiene packages to needy people in the community. The hygiene packages were assembled by the M.G.T. and G.C.C. under the direction of Student M.G.T. Captain Dr. Cindy Muhammad.
