LOS ANGELES—Light rain transformed into thunderstorms and flash floods as winter storms with relentless rains and heavy winds wreaked havoc in California.  Rare “high risk” floods pummeling Southern California stemmed from atmospheric rivers that struck beginning on Dec. 24.

This latest round of severe and unusual weather continues to be a bearing of witness to Divine Warnings issued by the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, Eternal Leader of the Nation of Islam, and His National Representative and the Messiah in our midst, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.

The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad warned that Allah (God) would punish America with Four Great Judgments in the form of rain, hail, snow and earthquakes.

“Woe to America, the murderer and deceiver of the people. The God of Justice and Truth has pronounced a judgment against thee—And by no means will you escape.

You have made mockery of Him, God, and His people and His word, the truth,” wrote the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, in His book, “The Fall of America,” in Chapter 34, “The Judgment of America.”

In Chapter 35, “America surrounded with the Judgment of Allah,” He writes: “All around the Southern Border of America, storms are raging. There are tornadoes and heavy rains and more storms are on the way—one right after another.

And in the North and Far West and in the East, America is surrounded with the judgments of Allah (God). There are earthquakes and the sea is raging. The Pacific Ocean is now angry and is raging and tossing up great waves as never before.”

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, in echoing his teacher, issued one of many warnings in his July 21, 2019, message, “The Man Jesus and How Not To Fall Into Idolatry.”

“I’ve been telling you, watch the weather. Every day the weather is getting worse and worse. The White meteorologists cannot tell you what the weather’s going to be; but my teacher told me.

Who’s your teacher, Farrakhan? My teacher is the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Without him and the Great Mahdi, I wouldn’t be here, but he told me there are two of us backing you up:  Allah and myself,” he said.

The current “2025 Christmas Storms” have forced California Governor Gavin Newsom to declare a state of emergency in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Shasta counties.

“Outside of the southeastern portion of the state, everyone in California is in some sort of weather watch or warning issued by the National Weather Service. … Many communities are under multiple watches and warnings,” reported The Weather Channel.

Areas affected by the dangerous flood and landslide threats were also areas soaked between Dec. 19-21 in Northern California and the L.A. Basin, which is the center of a tremendous sand-filled hole. Its walls are formed by the San Gabriel, Santa Monica and Santa Ana Mountains, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

“A flood on steroids,” is how Jason Kean, a research hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey’s landslide hazards program, dubbed the atmospheric river storms to Cal Matters media.

“It’s really hard to stop these things. The best thing to do is get out of the way,” he said.

Weather experts anticipated flash flooding and landslides, particularly in hilly and mountainous terrain and areas recently burned by wildfires—the Pacific Palisades, Pasadena and Altadena.

Los Angeles meteorologists indicated that around 9 a.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, the Pacific Palisades got soaked, raising concerns for the area.  In about a 15-20 minute period, “the sky just opened up,” water pouring from a storm cloud that just sat above the Palisades, reported John Baird on KNX 1070 radio.

These rains and subsequent flooding could render houses—due to mudslides—go floating into the ocean, according to the prediction of a week’s worth of torrential rains, said Nation of Islam Student Western Region Minister Abdul Malik Sayyid Muhammad of Los Angeles.

“It’s stated in these reports that California has experienced major rainstorms and extreme flooding events in the past, but this current storm is very intense and among the more serious in recent memory,” he added.

“It (news reports) says California has never seen a storm like this. And it’s talking about the storm driven largely by atmospheric rivers.  I mean, it’s rivers in the clouds, where the clouds are carrying rivers of rain!

And of course, we have been warned by the Messiah that a time like this was coming, and he’s been telling us for years, ‘watch the weather.’ And so now we are seeing Master Fard Muhammad and His Christ do their job,” said Student Min. Abdul Malik Sayyid Muhammad.

Meanwhile, at presstime, Topanga Canyon Boulevard north of Highway 1 in Malibu, which has been under construction since the Palisades Fire on Jan. 7, was shut down entirely through Dec. 26, at least.

In San Bernardino, fire officials declared Highway 2 impassable and issued an evacuation warning for communities near the San Bernardino Mountains, according to The Weather Channel.

In addition, high water made portions of Interstate 5 and the Ventura Freeway in the L.A. area impassable.

Local media outlets reported a wreck involving a FedEx truck carrying 12,000 pounds of packages that shut down northbound lanes on Interstate 5 in Ventura County.

In Northern California, 125,000 PG&E customers were left without power, but it was restored for 10,000 on Dec. 24. Widespread three-inch-plus additional rainfall occurred through Dec. 25, with local five-inch-plus rainfall being forecast likely in the coastal ranges and foothills of the northern and central Sierra, below snow level.

Another one to five inches of rainfall was predicted for parts of the Bay Area, which would equal about a month’s worth of rainfall in San Francisco.

In Southern California, the L.A. Basin from Santa Barbara to Orange County was expected to pick up at least three inches of  total rain during the Christmas week storms. Higher amounts were likely in the Southland mountains below the snow level, where some eight-inch-plus totals were expected, especially along south-facing slopes and in the foothills.

San Diego County was poised to pick up at least two inches of total rainfall. The heaviest rainfall for the region, with rain rates possibly over an inch per hour, was expected on Christmas Eve through Christmas Day.

In Los Angeles County, the Winter Shelter Program was activated, and additional winter shelters were opened for unhoused residents. The sheriffs and fire departments activated key resources, including Search and Rescue Teams and air resources staffed with swift water rescue swimmers. Incident Management Teams were on alert, and resources were strategically pre-positioned.

Student Min. Abdul Malik Sayyid Muhammad lifted scriptures, reminding that the people will be driven and forced to the center of the country as taught by the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

“See they not that We are visiting the land, curtailing it of its sides? And Allah pronounces a doom—there is no repeller of His decree.  And He is swift in calling to account,” he stated, quoting The Holy Qur’an, chapter 13, verse 41.

“Could it be that we’re at the beginning stages of these kinds of storms, these kinds of strange weather occurrences?  In humility, I hate to see this is coming, but we have Allah’s (God’s) Servant in our midst, who’s being fed by God to feed us,” he stated, referring to the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.

“So, we have to heed the warnings coming from him, and this is what we’re seeing. California has never seen this kind of intense rain since the Great Flood of 1862, then there was a flood in 1938 and 1955, but they only hit certain areas. This one is covering almost the entire state,” he said.—Charlene Muhammad, National Correspondent
