Final Call contributing photographer Haroon Rajaee was on the scene as several hundred Chicago public school students took to streets Jan. 14 and marched on Chicago Public Schools headquarters. The Chicago Public Schools Radical Youth Alliance (Chi-Rads) walkout included actions at individual schools and the larger downtown protest.

The students want a bigger say in what’s happening with Covid-19 policies, decisions on school closings, safety protocols, better and more access to computers, more support for students having a hard time economically because of the pandemic and other help.

Student organizers and supporters say their demands are valid and parents, educators and administrators need to embrace their activism and the needs of young people living through a once-in-100-year change of life event.
