The spirit was exceedingly high at Saviours’ Day 2026, hosted at the Huntington Place in Detroit, especially when the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan joined his Nation-al Assistant Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad on stage during the keynote address.

At the conclusion of the historic program on February 22, under the theme “We Must Make Our Community a Decent and Safe Place to Live,” a sobering announcement was made.

“As we just asked Allah to bless us and protect us; keep us safe on the road and through the sky, we just were made aware that we lost two members of the Nation of Islam from Durham, North Carolina, in a car accident earlier this morning. And they did not survive the accident,” said Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad.

“Brother Andre Muhammad, Sister Carla Muhammad, may Allah be pleased. And this is just a reminder that the next moment is not guaranteed to any of us. We must cherish every moment. So always pray for your brother and your sister. May Allah be pleased and reward them as He will for the good that they did,” he said.

As the tragic news circulated, people took to social media to share their condolences and fond memories of Sister Carla, and her husband, Brother Andre.

As students of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad under the leadership of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and as members of Mosque No. 34, they dedicated their lives to nurturing young people through education, sports, and community service, especially feeding those in need.

No matter the weather, Bro. Andre served hot meals every week in the streets of Durham. He would show up at Mosque No. 34 on Sunday mornings with food in heating trays, ready to feed people as soon as the service ended.

He would drive around the city looking for brothers and sisters sleeping outside in tents or congregating around barrels filled with fire to keep warm. He lovingly handed out physical food along with spiritual food contained in the pages of

In the wake of their return to Allah (God), Bro. Andre and Sis. Carla’s mission to feed people was adopted and continued by Brother Oczaveus X and Brother Jasper X. They assisted Brother Andre on Sundays, observing his consistency, love, methods, and routes.

“When I was at Saviours’ Day and received the information about our Brother Andre and Sister Carla, may Allah be pleased with them, I called Brother Jasper.

My exact words were ‘You know what we have to do’ and he said, ‘Yes Sir, pick up the baton for our Brother Andre,’” shared Bro. Oczaveus X.

“Immediately after the shock wore off from hearing about the passing of Brother Andre and Sister Carla, may Allah be pleased, the idea to pick up their mission crossed my mind.

When I first spoke with Brother Oczaveus, he had the exact same idea. It hit us at the same time, and we were excited to pick up the baton,” said Bro. Jasper X.
