CHICAGO—Members of the Nation of Islam, supporters, guests, and visitors filled the sanctuary of Mosque Maryam on Sunday, October 19, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the historic 1995 Million Man March. The special program was a live-streamed broadcast via the internet to the public and to Nation of Islam mosques and study groups.

The Million Man March was called by Allah (God) through the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and was held on October 16, 1995 in Washington, D.C. Nearly two million men from all walks of life responded and met in Washington, D.C. The entire day was devoted to the theme of “Atonement, Reconciliation, and Responsibility.”
“I think it speaks volumes of the heart of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan,” said Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad, National Assistant to Minister Farrakhan, of that historic day, in remarks on WVON 1690AM on October 16. The longtime Black talk radio station dedicated the day to the 30th Anniversary of the Million Man March during several programs.
“It speaks volumes of his [Minister Farrakhan’s] sincere love and commitment to see our people lifted up from the degraded condition that we have been put in. It speaks volumes of this man’s love for his—not only his own people but his love for the nation in which he lives, his love for humanity,” said Student Min. Ishmael.

“That was one day in our history given to us so that we could take that powerful principle of atonement, reconciliation and responsibility and put it on our shoulders to implement that in the various cities across the country,” he continued.
During the special program at Mosque Maryam, Student Min. Ishmael reiterated the magnitude of that day. “We welcome you to the 30th Anniversary of the Million Man March, the greatest gathering ever; an assembly of men in the history of the world,” he said. After his remarks, the audience was blessed to watch the message that Minister Farrakhan delivered at The Million Man March, which was played on a giant screen.
There were also other commemorative programs held in various cities around the country where people impacted by The Million Man March reflected and shared the value of the magnitude of that historic day.
