“We must find ways to stop violence in our communities—too many young people are dying,” said Congresswoman Gwen Moore of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and 2023 Month of Non-Violence Honorary Co-Chair. Rev. Dr. George Holmes, advisor to five U.S. presidents and Honorary Co-Chair said, “I am very honored to join Black Women for Positive Change as they fight to build a culture of peace during this month and beyond.

It is critical that we support non-violence in our community and get people rallied behind the sanctity of strong families and strong democratic systems.”

The first event that launched the Month of Non-Violence on October 2, 2023, was a virtual global forum on “Building a Global Culture of Peace.” Dozens of participants from around the world joined the conversation from countries including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, South Africa, South Korea, Ivory Coast, Scotland, Nigeria, Kenya, Mexico, Jamaica, India, and the Virgin Islands.

The discussion centered around ways to improve communications, promote activism and how to control anger in families, businesses, communities, nations and among youth.

Other events will include violence prevention marches, summits and organizing Peace Circles in schools across America. To date, over 50 schools and community organizations have signed up to sponsor Peace Circles. Individuals, faith institutions, schools and organizations are encouraged to sign up to organize Peace Circles and to obtain a free “Peace Circles Tool Kit” at:  www.monthofnonviolence.org.
