CHICAGO—Anti-war groups, activists and ordinary citizens gathered in downtown Chicago on April 8 to voice their concern and anger about the U.S. and Israel’s war in Iran.
Despite the announcement of a two-week, so-called ceasefire, protesters say that it is not enough. The ANSWER Coalition and other groups convened in Chicago and other cities around the country.
“… the war against the Iranian people needs to end permanently, not just for two weeks!” the ANSWER Coalition stated in a news release ahead of protests. Organizers demanded an end to sanctions on Iran and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the region.
They also called out Israel and its actions. “At the same time, the Israeli bombardment of Lebanon is reaching new levels of brutality. Earlier today, in just 10 minutes, Israel carried out over 100 air strikes against the country.
The Israeli regime has long sought to occupy part or all of Lebanon, and anti-war mobilizations need to continue until they withdraw and end their assault,” their news release stated.
The People’s Forum, Palestinian Youth Movement and Democratic Socialists of America, Party for Socialism and Liberation also endorsed the nationwide demonstrations.
