CHICAGO—Friday night peace walks are a staple of the ministry and work of Father Michael Pfleger and the Faith Community of St. Sabina, a Black parish on the South Side of Chicago.

The walks reflect decades of efforts to lessen violence, increase peace and build a sense of community in the Auburn Gresham and Englewood neighborhoods.

One of the themes for the Sept. 13 march was “A Gun Is Not the Answer.” The slogan was emblazoned on posters with an image of civil rights leader and peace advocate Martin Luther King Jr.

Men, women, teens and children participated in the Sept. 13 march through the neighborhoods.
