Muslims gathered at Mosque Maryam on March 26 for Laila-tul Qadr, an Arabic term meaning “Night of Power” or “Night of Majesty.” The observation marks the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan. Brothers and sisters gathered for iftar (breaking of the days fast) and then later in the evening, held prayers.
National Assistant to the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad, and Student National Imam Sultan Rahman Muhammad facilitated the program which was also streamed online. Throughout the holy month, Muslims in Nation of Islam mosques and study groups around the country also gathered for iftar with one another.
The Night of Power is believed by Muslim scholars to be the night during the holy month of Ramadan that the first verses of the Qur’an, the Islamic book of scripture, were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) around 610 A.D.
