On a Friday in September 1977, Brother Wahid was there when Minister Jabril Muhammad came to see the Minister at a hotel in Los Angeles. He had a brown paper bag with literature inside that he gave Minister Farrakhan to read.
On Sunday, Brother Wahid returned to the hotel to see Minister Farrakhan, however, Minister Jabril was already there. “Whatever went on in there, I want to be a part of it,” Brother Wahid said.
“When they opened the door, I knew something happened because they both had tears coming out of their eyes. His whole spirit was totally different. I said, he’s a totally different person now,” Brother Wahid recalled in a previous interview with The Final Call.
It was then that Minister Farrakhan told Minister Jabril, “Your eye operation was successful. The scales have been removed from my eyes.” That’s when Min. Farrakhan decided to rebuild the work of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.
The Minister asked Bro. Wahid to help him and Bro. Wahid offered himself as a helper to the Minister. Bro. Wahid was the first to offer to help Minister Farrakhan after Minister Jabril.
“He (Minister Farrakhan) said, will you help me? I said, ‘yes sir,’” Brother Wahid recalled. He told the Minister anything he does for the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, “I’ll help you.”
Brother Wahid was previously known as Wali Jafar Muhammad. He was renamed Abdul “Servant” Wahid “One or First,” by Minister Farrakhan.
