CHICAGO—A coalition of activists and community residents held a news conference on August 14 in Chicago at the DuSable Museum. They are pushing to form an independent Office of Gun Violence Reduction in the city to address the continuing problem of gun violence. The group stated its proposal in front of the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA) at a monthly meeting.

According to local media reports, if established, the Office of Gun Violence Reduction would focus on trauma healing, victim services, community violence interruption, trauma polices, and witness protection.

“The coalition that put forth the proposal—Live Free Illinois—is largely faith-based and features local pastors from the North, West, and South sides,” reported Fox 32, the local Chicago affiliate. —The Final Call
