TAMPA, Fla.—The City of Tampa hosted tens of thousands of brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. during their 84th Grand Conclave, under the theme “A Conclave with a Purpose,” held June 26 – July 2.
Brother Dr. Lawrence X is a registered F.O.I. from Mosque No. 48 in Dallas, and he is also a member of Omega Psi Phi brother and was in the city for the conclave.
Dr. Lawrence spent time at Legacy Preparatory Academy where he spoke to the students of Camp YG (Young gods) on the characteristics of an F.O.I. (Fruit of Islam, the men of the N.O.I.). He also spoke to students about conflict management styles.
On June 29, Dr. Lawrence convened a symposium on the “Protection of Womanhood,” which featured panelists Student Minister Chad Muhammad of Mosque No. 47, Rev. Dr. James Gallon, Dr. K. Lawrence, Jennifer Telfare and Dr. Philetha Tucker-Johnson. The symposium was held at Christian Praise and Worship Center under the leadership of Rev. Dr. James Gallon who is also a member of Omega Psi Phi.
The panelists responded to questions on pressing issues surrounding the ideological, emotional, financial, and physical security of women and the role Black men play in the protection of Black womanhood.
The laboring staff of Mosque No. 47, Student 7th Regional Protocol Director Phillip Muhammad of Mosque No. 29, Miami; brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, community members of Tampa, and the believers attended the symposium.
The weekend concluded with Dr. Lawrence delivering opening remarks at Mosque No. 47, on Sunday where he reinforced two principles: friendship is essential to the soul and that in Islam Allah promised us friendship in all walks of life. In the spirit of brotherhood, some of the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity also attended the Sunday mosque meeting.
The keynote address was delivered by Student Min. Tyrone Muhammad. The brotherhood and friendship shared between Student Min. Chad Muhammad of Mosque No. 47, Dr. Lawrence, Rev. Dr. Gallon, and all those who helped make the weekend a success serves as an example of our power and how we must unite on principle to make our communities more safe and decent places to live.
