CHICAGO—For Muslims in the Nation of Islam, July 4 is the day Allah (God) appeared in the Person of Master W. Fard Muhammad in Detroit, and He declared independence for the Black man and woman of America.
For students of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad under the leadership of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, it is observed as a national holy day.
Master Fard Muhammad gave us a flag, representing the Universe: the sun, moon and stars and declared Black men and women a free people.
In Chicago, a special flag-raising ceremony was the highlight of a gathering at the grounds of The National Center, the headquarters of the Nation of Islam. “This is such a great day. He (Master Fard Muhammad) gave us a flag that represents the Universe.
A flag which represents we are an independent Nation,” said Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad, National Assistant to the Honorable Minister Farrakhan, in remarks held during a special prayer service before the ceremony.
Student National Imam Sultan Rahman Muhammad led the prayer service and receited from the Holy Qur’an in Arabic beginning with Surah (chapter) 14:1 which states: “I, Allah, am the Seer. A Book which We have revealed to thee that thou mayest bring forth men, by their Lord’s permission, from darkness into light, to the way of the Mighty, the Praised One.”
