CHICAGO—The Faith Community of St. Sabina on the city’s South Side held a full weekend of events during Juneteenth weekend. A peace rally and march themed #StopGunViolenceChicago was held June 16. St. Sabina Senior Pastor, Father Michael Pfleger spoke, among others, as many in the crowd held signs or wore shirts reflecting names and images of loved ones who were victims of gun violence.
Poet J Ivy and rap artist G Herbo were also present and shared words. The next day the church held an expungement forum sponsored by Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County Iris Martinez. On June 18, civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump spoke during church service in front of a full congregation.
