Muslim women from the Nation of Islam attend weekend fashion event.

CHICAGO—An inspiring and innovative conference here offered beautiful visions of women and fashion as Carmen Muhammad, owner of Al-Nisa Designs and Women Working Together Inc., hosted the 2nd Annual International Arts Award Gala and her first U.S. Modest Fashion Week over the July 4 weekend.

Events were held at the Lakeview Terrace Navy Pier Convention Center, Contemporary Arts Museum and other locations. The weekend’s theme was “Fashion is an Ambassador to World Peace.” Islamic, children, and adult fashion from America, Africa, Mexico and other places were presented by Black, indigenous and international designers. Spectators, models, and designers traveled to Chicago to witness and take part in the groundbreaking activities. Ms. Muhammad is a longtime designer who has been involved in fashion for many years and active on the national and international scene. Look for more coverage in upcoming editions in The Final Call.
