CHICAGO—As the Nation of Islam celebrated Saviours’ Day, its annual commemoration of the birth of the founder of the Nation of Islam, the Great Mahdi Master Fard Muhammad, who came to seek and save the Black man and woman of America, Muslim women organized and executed another toy giveaway.
Children, families and everyone was welcome March 6 at the NOI headquarters Mosque Maryam on the South Side. Led by MGT-GCC Student Captain Naeemah Muhammad, the Muslim women make this activity a staple of Saviours’ Day observances. They continued that tradition and service this year though Saviours’ Day weekend was primarily a virtual event due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was a brisk day but the spirit was strong, warm and joy was spread as youngsters were able to receive Saviours’ Day gifts of toys, electronics, games and other enjoyable items. The event was held outside in the parking lot of the mosque. The toy giveaway was held with caution as social distancing, masks and other protections employed to keep everyone safe by Allah’s (God’s) grace.
