“I, Allah, am the best Knower. Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, We believe, and will not be tried? And indeed We tried those before them, so Allah will certainly know those who are true and He will know the liars. Or do they who work evil think that they will escape Us? Evil is it that they judge!” –Holy Qur’an, Surah 29, verses 1-4

As we enter the New Year 2009, we will note that the dominant numbers are 2 and 9 which equals 29. The 29th Chapter of the Holy Qur’an is entitled, Al-Ankabut: The Spider. This Surah contains seven sections and 69 verses. According to the introduction of this chapter, the spider is taken from the fact that falsehood and polytheistic beliefs are here compared with a spider’s web. False beliefs will not stand the test of time. The 41st verse reads: “The parable of those who take guardians besides Allah is as those who take guardians besides Allah is as the parable of the spider that makes for itself a house; and surely the frailest of the houses is the spider’s house—if they but knew!” Verse 44 confirms the power of the One God working through Divine Relationships between the heavens and the earth. “Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth. Surely there is a sign in this for the believer.”

The beginning of this new year has taken me and a few traveling companions from the Nation of Islam to the small municipality or township of Yanga, a 30-minute drive from Cordaba, Veracruz. We were there to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the first Liberator of Slaves known in the Americas beginning in the year 1609. Within less than two weeks from that inaugural event begins the inauguration of the first Black President Barack Obama in the most powerful nation in the world. We hope that this will initiate the birth of higher spiritual consciousness in which we can join hands around the globe as a part of the experience of God’s Divine Unity. This year 2009 also celebrates 200 years from the time of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln following the Civil War. This period in the 1860s put America into the great trial to release her bondage slaves to make a stand for themselves, though ill-prepared and economically frail to make a new beginning and independent society.

We were forced to take on the slave master’s colonial training as our way of life. We remember the great sacrifices that were made by all of our Great Freedom Fighters to liberate us. The NAACP is celebrating 100 years since their founding in 1909. We have embraced the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, and the hundreds of others who sacrificed their lives that we might live in a better world free of racism, bigotry and discrimination, and all the historical events that have preceded to this day, we acknowledge with great pride the unparalleled spiritual, divine mission of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad fighting for our complete independence from the control of our former slave masters granting us freedom, justice and equality. His was the great voice crying in the wilderness 44 years relentlessly to resurrect the mentally dead and blind ex-slaves who were forced into slavery in America well over 400 years ago. We have now lived through the extension of 78 years in this struggle from the early 30s until now with this continuing task and mission on the shoulders of his Most Excellent, Divine Helper, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.

As we commemorate all the efforts of our great ancestors in this new year, we also acknowledge the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution under its mentor and leader, Fidel Castro, may Allah extend his life as he pleases. What lies ahead in the future destiny of our country in a global world of war and terror? Can we beat the prophet’s prediction that we were to fall into the abyss of hell by what men’s hands have wrought? Will America repent of her evils as Jonah pleaded with the government of Ninevah to get an extension of their time into the creation of a better world? Will Barack Obama take the lead in this struggle of making a new change and a new beginning as was espoused by Jonah and its contemporary counterpart, in the spiritual, divine direction as espoused by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan? Will the country and its citizens repent of its evils and have a change of heart and change public policies of discrimination, racism and criminality with the exploitation of its neighbor to the south and to the West Indies. Will world policies be reshaped to admit unjust treatment to the poor and the deprived Indigenous population?

Will we give the new President-elect Barack Obama a chance to fulfill the goodness and uprightness of his heart for a United Kingdom and a united world based upon the principle of peace and righteousness? We have a chance, and we can. As our delegation of 10 persons traveled to Veracruz at the beginning of this new year to join our dispersed members of the Black and Latino family in Veracruz, Mexico, honoring a Black man who was the first liberator from the African slaves on his continent, let us join hands with his struggling people in Mexico to the millions of Americans who will be participating in the inauguration of our new president.

I close with a reflection on the Mayan prophesy which points to the year 2012 as a decisive year of change in which the Old World cycle will pass away and a new world will come in to take its place. Can we put away the mind and thinking of Satan and bring in the mind and thinking of God and the Christ within? My study from the many warriors and the nations established by Genghis Khan must be referenced at the end of this article as we have extended our Cultural Links with both the bloodline of spirit and flesh of Asia, Africa, and the Americas so that we are gradually coming to realize that we all are one. I wish to make this appeal to President-elect Obama, soon to be acknowledged First Lady, Michelle Obama and their children, a Divinely Guided transition into the most powerful position to be held in world government and not to give up the faith and the trust that the people of America have bestowed upon him.

Whoever hopes to meet with Allah, the term of Allah is then surely coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing. And whoever strives hard, strives for himself. Surely Allah is Self-sufficient, above (need of) (His) creatures. And those who believe and do good, We shall certainly do away with their afflictions and reward them for the best of what they did.” –Holy Qur’an, Surah 29, verses 5-7

To be continued.
