As negotiators for the United States and Iran sought an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program and to lessen tension between the nations, the biggest fight was not in Lausanne, Switzerland among negotiators but inside the U.S. as Republicans, Zionists and war hawks tried to pummel the president over the yet to be completed deal.

GOP leaders railed against President Obama charging he was opening the door to an armed nuclear Iran. It’s hypocritical that the U.S. feels entitled to nuclear weapons, Israel has a right to nuclear weapons but Iran must be tethered, controlled and scrutinized. But it was mutually assured destruction that shepherded the United States and defunct Soviet Union through the Cold War and into a new era of relations.

Iran-U.S. relations have been ugly for some time and some seem intent on pushing the nations over the edge. Mr. Obama is trying to curb nuclear weapons and Iran wants to end U.S. sanctions hurting her country.

Yet a determined and perhaps obsessed group rejects common sense, national unity and loyalty to derail the president, who leads foreign policy.

Forty-seven Republicans led by Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas sent a letter to Iran warning any deal reached with President Obama might not be worth the paper it is printed on because a successive president could disavow it. With the 2016 presidential election on the horizon, these threats only increase tension.

Secretary of State John Kerry is involved in negotiations which include the U.S., Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia. Mr. Kerry and Iran’s top negotiator met early March 16 to help move the process forward. The deal is supposed to be done by June 30.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and GOP letter writer Sen. Cotton say the president is failing in his duty. The president, in turn, told an interviewer he felt sorry for GOPers who seem intent on presenting a divided front.

Even some Obama critics say Republicans went too far: “Regardless of President Obama’s recklessness in negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran, 47 Republican U.S. senators engaged in treachery by sending a letter to the mullahs aimed at cutting the legs out from under America’s commander-in-chief,” said the N.Y. Daily News. “Traitors,” blared a Daily News headline.

“Democrats have been outraged by 47 Senate Republicans ostentatiously trying to blow up negotiations with Iran with their ‘open letter’ to Iranian leaders–essentially begging Iranian hardliners to blow up the talks on the Republicans’ behalf. Senate historians could find no precedent for the party opposed to the President in Congress trying to blow up an international negotiation involving the United States in this way,” added Robert Naiman, policy director at Just Foreign Policy, in a piece titled “Will the 47 Diplomacy Saboteurs Have Democratic Enablers?” published on commondreams.org.

America’s divided leadership is sending a signal to the world: “Governments are bound to their commitments by international laws and would not violate their obligations with a change of government,” Iran’s Ayatollah Khameini said. “The negotiating team that President [Rouhani] has chosen for the talks are good, trustworthy and act based on the interests of the country,” Ayatollah Khamenei said. “But I’m worried because the other side is cunning, deceitful and back-stabbing.”

U.S. confusion and acrimony are signs of the demise of a once great nation and the type of division the Bible speaks of.

“And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand,” says Matthew 12:26.

“America is being torn to pieces politically as Pharaoh’s political party was in the days when Jehovah went after the freedom of Israel,” wrote the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad in his enlightening book, “The Fall of America.”

“My beloved brothers and sisters, look at the confusion among those who are entrusted with the responsibility of leadership. The leaders are confused and at their wits end, for the problems are so great that they have no solution to the world’s problems,” warns the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, in an article published in The Final Call newspaper and available at finalcall.com.

“In the United States of America, not only are Black people dissatisfied, but White people are also dissatisfied. In fact, the dissatisfaction on the Earth is 100 percent. And the Honorable Elijah Muhammad has taught us that whenever there is 100 percent dissatisfaction, this 100 percent dissatisfaction is bound to bring about a 100 percent change–a complete change in rulership,” the Minister wrote.

“If the leaders are confused, what about the people? … Yes–America, who feared revolution coming from the Blacks in this country because of their discontent, now have to fear revolution from their own people because of their great dissatisfaction with government. It is a great time of trouble.”

“You paid no attention to the Honorable Elijah Muhammad when he called you to do for yourself. You laughed at him, you mocked him, you scorned him, you ridiculed him! And now, Almighty God is showing you that the people that you put your faith and trust and confidence in over God and His Servant and The Truth, which was brought for your redemption and salvation–now your rejection is bringing us into a time of trouble,” said Min. Farrakhan. “Oh, my beloved Black brothers and sisters: We must unite. We must stop this petty bickering among ourselves. We must break down every artificial barrier that keeps us divided against self.”

America is falling.
