Idris and Khalifah Muhammad

(FinalCall.com) – Eighteen-year-old Khalifah Muhammad and his 20-year-old brother Idris, were killed in a car crash after the vehicle Idris was driving veered off the road and hit a utility pole on June 23.

Officials say both brothers were wearing seat belts and that the two women in the back seat suffered serious injuries, however, they were not life-threatening.

Since the announcement of their deaths, FaceBook tributes from friends, classmates and family members have been numerous. All were shocked by the sudden death of the two brothers, who by all accounts were described as peaceful, well-mannered and respectful young men. Family and friends held a candlelight vigil on June 24 at Kennedy High School where both attended and graduated.

Brother Khalifah had hoped to enter the film industry and was working towards that goal. Recently, Brother Khalifah was featured in The Final Call after being named Morehouse College’s “Freshman of the Year“.

The two were sons of Final Call Staff Writer Nisa I. Muhammad and Muhammad Mosque Number 4’s Prison Reform student minister Anthony Muhammad.

In a note posted on her FaceBook page, Sister Nisa, on behalf of the family wrote the following:

“Thank you to everyone who has shown their support and words of encouragement during this difficult time. Allah (God) is so merciful.”

Funeral services were held June 28 for the two young men in Silver Spring, Md. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

(For those who wish to send cards, flowers or donations, Sister Nisa has asked that her daughter be e-mailed with requests for info at [email protected].)
