For Black children in America, this is a painful but daily reality. As noted by the Center For Policing Equity (CPE), “In this country, Black children do not get the luxury of having their innocence presumed and protected by the majority-White society in which they live.” The center references a 2014 study it conducted by co-founder and CEO Phillip Atiba Goff, called “The Essence of Innocence.”  

Their study “found that the period of time during which White youth are not expected to be fully responsible for their actions can extend well into their late 20s. By contrast, Black children are often treated as adults by age 13, if not well before, regularly perceived as older, less innocent, and more threatening than their White same-age peers.”

There have been several similar studies conducted over the years that have reached the same or very similar conclusion. As a result of this “adultification” of our Black youth, they are quite often not given the benefit of the doubt nor do they receive sympathy or empathy in the court of public opinion or in America’s so-called justice system.  

In the CPE study it also revealed that Black boys as young as 10 may not be viewed in the same light of childhood innocence as their White peers, but are instead more likely to be mistaken as older, be perceived as guilty and face police violence if accused of a crime.

“Children in most societies are considered to be in a distinct group with characteristics such as innocence and the need for protection. Our research found that Black boys can be seen as responsible for their actions at an age when White boys still benefit from the assumption that children are essentially innocent,” noted Mr. Goff.

“One alarmingly frequent outcome is that, in any interaction they may have with the country’s criminal legal systems, Black children are routinely held to adult standards, the study also reported.

History is full of examples that confirm what these various studies have concluded. And unfortunately for young, Black men and boys in America, this “adultification” has led to deadly results.

George Junius Stinney Jr. was wrongfully executed in 1944 in Columbia, South Carolina, at the age of 14 after being convicted, during an unfair trial, for the murders of two White girls. According to records, George was only 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighed 90–95 pounds.

But it did not matter that this young boy was not guilty. He received no due process and no benefit of the doubt. Young George was innocent, and decades later, his conviction was overturned.

Emmett Till, also innocent and also only 14. But the fact that he was a boy did not stop the racist, White thugs from kidnapping, torturing and killing him in Mississippi in 1955. There was no sympathy. He was not viewed as an innocent youngster.

Mike Brown Jr., just 18 years old when he was confronted, shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014. Mike Jr. was 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighed approximately 290 pounds, but he was still just a teen.

The officer who confronted and ultimately killed him, tried to use the excuse that because of the young, Black man’s size that he was intimidated and feared for his life. The officer himself was 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighed about 210 pounds.

Tamir Rice was only 12 years old and playing in a park with a toy airsoft “gun” in 2014, when someone called the police saying a “male, probably a juvenile,” had a gun. Police arrived and shot and killed him on site with no hesitation.

How Black youth are treated is not limited to engagements with law enforcement. Fast forward to today. Recently, a South Carolina jury acquitted convenience store owner Chikei Rick Chow of murder in the May 2023 fatal shooting of 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton.

Chow shot the unarmed Black teenager in the back after chasing him over a suspected water bottle theft after claiming he acted in self-defense. There was reportedly no evidence that Cyrus had taken anything from the store. But, the fact that this young brother, not even old enough to drive, did not matter to someone who saw him not as a child, but as a threat that had to be neutralized.

National Representative of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, has consistently warned us that what we see happening in the targeting of our Black youth will continue to happen. He has explained that Black youth have been marked for death by the U.S. government and those who are enemies to their rise.

However, Minister Farrakhan and the Two who back him, have guided him with the solution, if we take heed and obey his guidance.

“The Honorable Elijah Muhammad taught us that one of the things that must be done, in this time, is that we must be separated from our former slave masters and their children—because time will prove that they will become more and more disagreeable to live with in peace,”

Minister Farrakhan said in part 39 in his 2013, 58-week lecture series, “The Time and What Must Be Done,” titled, “Can Black and White Live Together in Peace.”

“Unfortunately, race relations will continue to get worse because the government just cannot provide enough food, clothing, shelter and jobs, or justice, for us.  And as we sit around, waiting for somebody else to do this for us—and demanding what we feel are our basic rights as so-called citizens—we are making our former slave masters and their children more angry with us; and thus.

They are becoming more disagreeable to live with in peace. That’s why the Honorable Elijah Muhammad said, ‘We must be separated if we don’t want to continue to suffer great loss,’” Minister Farrakhan stated.

As days go by, what the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan have revealed continues to come to pass. We cannot continue to think that our over 400-year enemy is going to do right by us or our children.

Our enemy does not view our children as having a right to exist, thrive and survive. White children can be children, Black children cannot. And as long as we continue to think that integration is the answer, the more our children will suffer.

In the words of Minister Farrakhan, “Separation will prove to be the only answer to the problem between the Black man and woman and the White people of America.”

ATLANTA—Modesty and elegance recently took center stage as Sister Dorothea Muhammad of Mosque No. 15, an entrepreneur, designer, and visionary, brought her creative vision to life at the DeKalb Conference Center in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Sister Dorothea, the founder of Belle ‘D’ Kouture, hosted an inspiring modest fashion show called “Beyond the Runway.”

Models graced the stage wearing unique outfits by fashion designers from diverse backgrounds. The fashion show celebrated the beauty and grace of Muslim women’s fashion—proving once again that modesty and style can coexist.

The event, held May 30, included fashion designers, entrepreneurs, and business owners of different faiths from across the Atlanta area and beyond. The gathering was a testament to Sis. Dorothea’s commitment to “empower women to look and feel their best in every aspect of their lives.”

As the lights dimmed and the guests prepared to be seated, the atmosphere filled with anticipation and excitement. Sis. Zewdy X, a model and vocalist, melodiously recited the opening chapter of the Holy Qur’an to prepare the attendees for an evening of grace and gratitude.

“Beyond the Runway is dedicated to shaping the next generation of young women by fostering confidence, connection, character and compassion,” said hostess Thai Leonard, who kept the excitement of the evening flowing.

“This evening is more than a celebration,” she continued. “It’s a reminder that distinction is not found in titles alone, but it’s found in the impact that we leave in the lives of others.”

The evening demonstrated gratefulness to Allah (God) for teaching the Black woman how to dress and for raising among the Black man and woman in America, the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the Eternal Leader of the Nation of Islam, and His National Representative, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.

Modest fashion brands of the evening included: Belle ‘D’ Kouture, Khalifah Apparel, Kameelah’s Closet, YONQUEAL, Beloved Boutique and Afronique Honeycomb (the mother company of the natural, luxury fabric line Natriel).

Music filled the room, and the models glided on the runway, representing each fashion brand with dignity. Attendees gasped, clapped and cheered in excitement as they watched the show. Both men and women respected the diversity of designs.

“It was wonderful. There were a lot of beautiful presentations, so many diverse, different styles,” said Bro. Najeem Muhammad, 26. “Unfortunately, when we think of modesty, we think about it in a certain box, but when I saw the fashion show, I saw so many different styles, so many different vibrant colors, and that just went to show that you can be modest and be beautiful at the same time.”

Sis. Jenna X was honored to participate as a fashion model for modest clothing. “It’s an honor to represent the Mother of Civilization,” she stated, referring to the Black woman. “I have a history—prior to coming into the Nation [of Islam]—of pageantry and modeling, and to be able to do it at a high level and the way that Allah (God) came to make us, it is really an honor and a privilege.”

“I think that the clothing lines were so beautiful,” said husband and wife duo Bro. Anthony and Sis. Vayanah Muhammad of Atlanta. “These are clothing lines that every human being in America should be wearing,” they stated.

The fashion show honorees included: Mayor Carmalitha L. Gumbs, City of South Fulton (Honoree of The Visionary Leadership Award); Nation of Islam pioneer, Sister Annie Muhammad (Honoree of The Lifetime Achievement Award); and Student Southern Regional M.G.T. Captain Dr. Nusaybah Muhammad from Mosque No. 15 in Atlanta (Honoree of The Trailblazer Award).

A special tribute was shared in honor of Mother Clara Muhammad, wife of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, and Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, wife of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.

Mayor Gumbs, who is the first female mayor of the city of South Fulton, was unable to attend the fashion show but offered words of gratitude via webcam. “I understand the significance of this moment, not just for myself, but for the young girls and women who are watching and realizing that leadership, service, and purpose have no limits,” she stated.

“I am truly grateful for this recognition and deeply appreciate being acknowledged by an organization that is pouring into the next generation of young women in such a meaningful way.”

Student Regional M.G.T. Captain Nusaybah Muhammad described her recognition at the event as “one of the most prestigious honors.” She recalled being ridiculed for dressing modestly. “To now get to the place where it is being honored and recognized feels amazing,” she stated.

“So even though I went through the ridicule, I didn’t allow it to stop me on the pathway to being a Muslim woman, one who wanted to reflect my culture in my dress, in the belief in my dress, my spirit, [and] my inner being.”

The fashion show proved a huge success, highlighting the elegance and versatility of modest fashion. It served as a platform to highlight collective creativity, refinement and unity.

Sister Dorothea thanked everyone who supported Beyond the Runway Fashion and Awards—from the sponsors, designers, models, vendors, volunteers and every guest who attended the event. “The best is yet to come,” she said.

Since our sojourn in America there have been efforts to dismantle those goals. While establishing relationships with other communities regardless of political, socio-economic, ethnic and religious affiliations is also worthwhile, those relationships must be established on truth, transparency and historical accuracy.

Members of the Jewish community met recently in Miami with several well-known Black leaders and organizers for the National Convening on the Black-Jewish Alliance.

The event was called, according to organizers “the first national gathering of its kind in more than 25 years, aimed at renewing one of the most consequential partnerships in American history.” The meeting, which reportedly drew “more than 100 leaders,” was held May 26-30.

According to reporting by The San Diego Voice & Viewpoint, “Hosted by the Exodus Leadership Forum and Redstone Family Foundation at EAST Hotel Miami, the convening brought together clergy, organizers, artists, philanthropists, educators, civic leaders and cultural figures.

The goals were to strengthen relationships; confront rising antisemitism and racism; and help shape a shared national strategy for Black-Jewish partnership in the years ahead.”

The gathering attracted Blacks, Jews and those who are members of both communities. The Exodus Leadership Forum is a non-profit established by former Obama administration advisor for Green Jobs and current political commentator Van Jones.

The reported goal of the forum is “to revitalize and strengthen the historic partnership between the Black and Jewish communities.” The Redstone Family Foundation is described as “a philanthropic organization”

And is headed by media executive Shari Redstone. Rev. Dr. Benjamin Chavis, longtime civil rights activist and president and CEO of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (the Black Press), also addressed the gathering. There are reportedly plans to make it an annual gathering.

The weekend included several goals and included “facilitated conversations around difficult ‘wedge issues,’” noted sdvoice.info. Coming out of the “historic gathering,” a draft of a National Strategy for Black and Jewish Partnership was crafted and included the following:

• Promoting Awareness and Historical Understanding
• Deepening Relationships and Building Trust
• Shaping a Public Narrative around Black-Jewish Allyship
• Coordinating Efforts Across the Field
• Expanding Partnerships for Collective Advocacy and Action

The above goals could be considered practical. However, before the rest of the points listed can be delved into, the first point, “Promoting Awareness and Historical Understanding,” must be addressed. And, there can be no awareness or understanding that is not based on truth and actual facts.

For decades, the National Representative of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, has spoken the unadulterated truth about the historic and current relationship between Blacks and Jews.

He has been unfairly lied on, maligned and targeted by members of the Jewish community and many scared-to-death Black people who are unwilling or unable to face the real truth about the history of this “relationship.”

Before any sort of “alliance” can be considered, what the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan has presented and revealed must be part of the dialogue. Otherwise, no meaningful so-called alliance can be considered. And, if there is an alliance, what will it be based on?

Minister Farrakhan has called for a dialogue with members of the Jewish community, but he has been rebuffed due to his unwillingness to speak other than the truth. In his efforts to foster communication and understanding between the two communities, the Nation of Islam Research Department has produced several books, including:

“The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews: The Jewish Role in the Enslavement of the African,” “The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews: How Jews Gained Control of the Black American Economy,” “The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews:

The Leo Frank Case, The Lynching of a Guilty Man,” and “Jews Selling Blacks.” There is also a comprehensive compilation of messages by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, titled, “Revealing the Truth & Exposing the Synagogue of Satan.”

Perhaps the dialogue around “difficult wedge” issues about “one of the most consequential partnerships in American history” can and should start with the reading and studying of these materials. Doing so would allow both groups to truly start a sincere dialogue that could lead toward an “alliance.”

Over the years, Minister Farrakhan has written letters to prominent Jewish groups and Black leaders and organizations to foster sincere and truthful dialogue based on understanding. He has sent the books from the N.O.I. Research Group to Black and Jewish leaders, accompanied by letters of divine guidance.

In an open letter to Jewish groups he wrote in 2010, Minister Farrakhan stated: “I have pleaded with you over the years for a sensible, intelligent dialogue.

You have rejected me, and some Rabbis have given me terms for friendship that any self-respecting person could never accept. So with this truth in our hands and yours, and soon in the hands of tens of thousands, I again ask you for a dialogue.”

The same year, Minister Farrakhan also emailed Black leadership, stating in part, “These books that the Historical Research Department of the Nation of Islam has published, “The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews: How Jews Gained Control of the Black American Economy Volume 2”

And “Jews Selling Blacks” are being shared with our people to show us how we were completely undone and how others have benefited from what has happened and continues to happen to us. We cannot deal effectively with our so-called friends as men and women without this vital knowledge.”

He continued, “Whenever the Light of Truth has been shone on them, they reach for you to defend them against the Truth that uncovers the horror that has been done to us. They have always been successful pitting us against each other thus keeping them from facing the Truth of their real relationship with us.

As they call upon you to denounce me as an anti-Semite and, because of the favor you believe you owe them for what they have done to help make life comfortable for you; I am asking you to stand down. I am asking you to read this research and then discuss it with your Jewish friends.

Would you condemn me as an anti-Semite for exposing the research that shows them as being anti-Black? I am asking you to stand down and let them come out to me to defend their record and history of their relationship with us that we compiled from that which was written by their own scholars, historians, and Rabbis.”

For sincere alliances to be created, truth must be present. So, for the National Convening on the Black-Jewish Alliance, seek the guidance and wisdom that the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan has already shared, offered and made available.

NEW YORK—“The fact that my mother did not die in chains in a space unworthy of her humanity, not cowering, or dispirited, or uncommitted, or acquiescent, is a testament to the fortitude of the human spirit and this is indeed triumphant,” Kakuya Shakur said of her mom, Assata Olugbala Shakur, who died with her freedom and legacy intact.

The Queens, New York-born, Cuban-exiled  Black Panther Party activist had been living in Cuba since her escape from New Jersey’s Clinton Correctional Facility in 1979.

The Black liberation fighter was celebrated with hundreds in attendance at a memorial at Riverside Church, on Saturday, May 30, in New York, called, “Carry It On—A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Assata Shakur.” 

The tributes were powerful and heartfelt. None more so than the loving presentation by Kakuya Shakur, who grew up mainly in Cuba with her mother.  “I want to thank you mommy for being my mother, for loving me in a tradition rooted in liberation,” she shared with those gathered in attendance for the tribute and memorial.

“For teaching me to question the status quo of human cruelty … to question who we are if we never realize that we have nothing to lose but the weighty degradation of our chains,” Kakuya Shakur added.

Assata Shakur passed away on September 25, 2025,  in Havana, Cuba.  She was 78.

Fresh fruits, mood lights and long-stemmed sunflowers surrounded Assata’s multi-layered art work at the front of the main hall, packed by hundreds of people from the grassroot political panorama of the New York area.

There was the “Free the land!” and “Free ‘em all,” call and response, and reminding the crowd that it is there that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic speech, “Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence.” Dr. Adriene Thorne opened the program. Activists Dara Cooper and Monifa Bandele emceed the event.

National Assistant to the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, Student Minister Ishmael R. Muhammad also attended the program. In comments to The Final Call from Mosque No. 7 in New York, about the gathering he said, “It was a most beautiful, dignified service to honor our sister who was charged with a crime that she is innocent of. 

And not only was she lifted and honored so beautifully by those who spoke, but I enjoy hearing us thank the Cuban government and the Cuban people, and Comandante Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro.”  He added, “They (Cuba) made good on their promise to care for her and to keep her safe.  So, that was beautiful that everybody gave thanks to the Cuban people.”

Asked about the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan’s position, Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad replied that the Minister also felt “extreme gratitude and thanks for her (Assata Shakur’s) sacrifice and what she contributed to the cause of freedom and justice.”

“They arranged to meet every time the Minister went to Cuba—maybe with the exception of one time for security reasons, he saw our sister,” Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad added.

On May 2, 1973, state troopers stopped Black Panther Party member Assata Shakur and two other members on the New Jersey Turnpike. There was a shootout, and Black Liberation Army (BLA) member Zayd Malik Shakur was killed, along with a state trooper.

Despite sustaining two gunshot wounds, Assata Shakur was charged with the murder of the slain state trooper.  She was convicted of the 1973 first-degree murder of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster.  Her supporters have always campaigned that she was unfairly charged and was innocent.

On Nov. 2, 1979, Shakur escaped from New Jersey’s Clinton Correctional Facility and remained in Cuba until her passing last year.  In 2005, classified erroneously as a “domestic terrorist” by the FBI, the government put a $1 million reward for her capture.  Placing her on the Most Wanted Terrorist List, the feds raised the reward to $2 million in 2013. 

Assata Shakur was the godmother to hip hop legend Tupac Shakur, and on his birthday June 16, 2017, President Donald Trump during his first term in office in his Cuba policy speech, made his extradition demand. President Fidel Castro, and next his brother Raul, refused to give her up.

Riverside is the church where Fidel Castro delivered an historic four-hour speech on September 8, 2000, to an audience of an estimated 4,000 people.

Political and cultural commentator Marc Lamont Hill also presented alongside political activist Angela Davis at the event. 

Ms. Davis reminded folk that Assata Shakur did indeed call herself, “A reluctant warrior, a reluctant struggler,” adding that, “She embraced that role, she said, as the only viable response to the prevailing conditions of oppression.”

Ms. Davis added that Assata Shakur could have been an artist, a gardener, or a sculptor, but the freedom fighter was the “paragon of revolutionary commitment.”

She said that people should, “Make a collective commitment to ‘Carry it on,’” when it comes to what Assata Shakur fought for.

Saying that, “Freedom is always a collective project,” quoting Assata herself, Dr. Hill said, “We must resist our oppressors … we must organize.” He suggested that everyone should embrace the autobiographical author, poet, and organizer and see the “beautiful complexity of Assata’s work,” which ultimately illustrates the “power and the possibility of collective struggle.”

“After more than 50 years of isolation,” Kakuya Shakur said gently, “after 50 years of quietly counteracting the mainstream narrative amongst ourselves, this is a liberating moment that allows my family to affirm the truth of who my mother was.” 

She added, “I want to give thanks to all of the people who kept my mother free, a modern-day underground railroad of people that cherished her, and ensured her safety.”

Kakuya Shakur revealed, “My mother is my most influential shero. My mother understood that she was born into resistance … she willingly accepted the inevitability of struggle … and the commitment of winning this struggle … for Black and all subjugated people.”

Assata Shakur’s longtime lawyer Lennox Hinds, Professor Rosemari Mealy, Lisa Brock, and Tracey A. Matthews, were also among the speakers.

Remote tributes came as a call from the still-incarcerated political prisoner Black Panther journalist Mumia Abu Jamal, and a video sent by Indigenous activist Leonard Peltier. 

Monifa Bandele greeted the Panther Cubs, BLA cubs, Republic of New Afrika cubs, MOVE members stating, “We see you and we salute you.”

The names of elder political activists and currently and formerly incarcerated “political prisoners” like Sekou Odinga, Mutulu Shakur, Sundiata Acoli, Kamau Sadiki were called.

Beloved by hip hop artists in Havana and in the U.S., with Tupac as her godson, Assata Shakur understood the artistry, and Angela Davis shouted out rappers like Common, Killer Mike, and Rapsody.

There were several cultural offerings throughout the evening tribute, including, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Asase Yaa African Dance Theater, Oma Yesa, Mumu Fresh, Sharp Radway, and Common.

Kakuya Shakur said of her mother, “She loved being a woman revolutionary steeped in the strength that gave me life barreling through the stony walls of a United States prison … she loved being my mom. So, mommy on this day, I hope that you are coiled in the rapture of love … and are sun swept and dripping in the fold of loving arms.” 

Monifa Bandele said, “Assata lives y’all, no movement can survive unless it’s constantly growing and changing with the times. … That’s why political work and organizing is so important.” Nayaba Arinde is a freelance Editor-at-Large and award-winning reporter and activist. The role of the F.O.I. is to be little “saviours,” explained Minister Farrakhan during a historical message called, “The Meaning of F.O.I.”

The Final Call newspaper and the books of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad are tools in this effort, he explained. “In the F.O.I., we must teach every brother how to handle himself as a soldier and how to handle the word of God as an instrument by which the people can be saved,” said Minister Farrakhan.

When it comes to the U.S. government, the White power structure in this country and White people and their treatment of and toward Black people, what Ms. Angelou said has been proven true time and time again.

They have shown us who and what they are.  So, we must stop expecting something different. There is a plethora of historic and current examples of this; too many to keep track. But we only must look over the past few days to see even more examples.

The continued attack and dismantling of Black studies curricula on all levels of education is a deliberate strategy to attempt to erase the tremendous contributions our people have made and continue to make not only to America, but the world. 

They hate our very shadow, so what better strategy than to target academic institutions? A recent article published on The Nation, titled “Dismantling Black Studies,” examined this deliberate tactic.

The article listed several institutions of higher education that have either totally dismantled or watered down Black or African Studies departments, curricula or programs and also legislation that have targeted such programs. 

According to the article, Florida’s Senate Bill 266  stripped Black-studies courses of their general-education status and cut the research funding that faculty depend on and Kentucky’s House Bill 4  suspended the University of Louisville’s Pan-African Studies doctoral program and eliminated all graduate assistantships. 

“Black studies is where the attack has been the most deliberate, the most structural, and the most revealing of what is at stake.  In recent months, university leaders have dismantled departments and deliberately narrowed the pipeline producing the next generation of Black scholars. What is happening is not just a series of isolated bureaucratic decisions; it is a coordinated assault,” the article states.

This is just one example. Then there are deliberate targeting and attack on anything Black folks attempt to do “for us by us.”  A White dermatologist along with what is being described as a “conservative advocacy group” had the nerve to file a federal lawsuit against the online platform Find A Black Doctor. 

The lawsuit alleges racial discrimination because the directory limits its physician listings to Black doctors and dentists.  Statics have proven that Black patients received better care from Black healthcare professionals.  It is highly doubtful this White dermatologist has the desire to truly care for and treat Black patients.

White folks, who still control the wealth and levers of power in politics, business, academia and are dusting off  the tired, non-existent “reverse racism/reverse discrimination” card as a last resort to hold onto a power that they see they are losing their grip on. 

And, just like in the past, they are using the tools at their disposal in various levels of government to do their bidding to on to power. 

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has been actively soliciting White men to file workplace discrimination charges, if someone Black or non-White gets a position that in their arrogance, they think rightfully belongs to them.

As Allah (God) is breaking America and the Caucasian’s grip on power, their tactics become more desperate, and they are becoming more emboldened. 

As each day goes by, our open enemy continues to show us that they are disagreeable to live with in peace. The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad told His National Representative.

The Honorable Minister Farrakhan, that when the children of Israel rebelled against Moses and Aaron and did not want to leave their slavemaster to build an independent nation of their own under the guidance of Allah (God) that He chastised them with fiery serpents and cockatrices. 

“The Honorable Elijah Muhammad asked me one day, ‘do you know what it means, fiery serpents?’ I said, ‘no sir.’  He said, ‘It means angry White people,’” Minister Farrakhan said during a May 9, 2017, interview on WVON 1690AM Talk of Chicago radio with host Cliff Kelley, during President Donald Trump’s first term in office.

“White people are getting more and more angry every day, and as I said on this same wonderful program before, Mr. Trump was elected that the mask of civility—like an onion peeling—is being peeled off.  Now naked hatred, not only in word but in deed, is being openly shown to us,” Minister Farrakhan said.

This naked hatred is increasing and like they always have, angry Whites are using the power of the U.S. government as a tool in their hatred.

Minister Farrakhan in answering a question from The Final Call, stated the following about the U.S. government during his Holy Day of Atonement Message in 2003: “this government of the United States is our worst enemy.”

“As long as the Children of Israel saw Pharaoh as a friend, they could not see Moses and Jehovah as their true friend. As they came into consciousness—by the wicked things that Pharaoh continued to do against them—that Pharaoh was indeed their enemy, then Moses and Jehovah’s call to them to separate from Pharaoh to build a nation of their own became a reality.

“As long as we see America and her wealth as something that we want, we will never leave Pharaoh. As God’s hand touched the wealth of Pharaoh, it is now touching the wealth of America. 

As the Black man and woman become more awakened to the wicked machinations of government, the aim is the same today: We should never be free of their influence and power.

“As Abraham Lincoln said, if there is to be a superior position, he would rather that superior position be assigned to the White race. That superior position must be protected by those who believe in White supremacy and they will do everything in their power to make sure that that position will always be throughout the generations,” Minister Farrakhan said.

He added, “So, our path is clear: We refuse to be inferior. We want to be exactly what Allah (God) has desired for us to be and we can’t be that in their house.  We either have to take over their house or go and build a house of our own.”

Like Minister Farrakhan said, our path is clear. The U.S. government and White folks have shown us who and what they are. The question for us is: Do we finally believe them?

Coleman A. Young II, Detroit City Council President Pro-Tem, organized a “Mothers of the Year” event on May 12, at the Northwest Activity Center. Sister Athenia Harris Muhammad of Mosque No. 1 in Detroit and 10 other mothers, including a 105-year-old and a 91-year-old, were recognized as “Mothers of the Year in Detroit.” The event featured a pleasant evening of dinner, conversation, and laughter, noted her son, Brother Nathaniel Haris Muhammad, on Facebook.

Student Minister Troy Muhammad, of Mosque No. 1 in Detroit, praised Sis. Athenia for her culture and refinement and called her “a shining example of a wife, mother, sister and friend,” and a “beautiful and dedicated M.G.T. of the Nation of Islam,” on his Facebook page.

Sister Athenia served as M.G.T. Captain in Detroit after being appointed in 1982 by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and was a helper in the early days of the Nation of Islam’s rebuilding efforts in the city.

Sister Athenia married the love of her life, Nathaniel Harris, in 1963, remaining devoted to him until his return to Allah (God) on July 8, 2016. She is the proud mother of Bro. Chef Nathaniel Harris Jr., Bro. Arthur Harris III, Student F.O.I. Captain Sharrieff (Harmon) Muhammad, and her beloved daughter Sis. Geneva, who has also returned to Allah. She is a cherished grandmother of nine and a proud great-grandmother of 10.

“I thought it was special because at one time Sister Athenia Muhammad worked for his father, Detroit Mayor Coleman A. Young,” posted Student Min. Troy Muhammad, referring to Councilman Young’s dad. “Of course our mosque family knows her to be a mother of the year every year. [Sis.] Athenia is a beacon of light and energy at Muhammad Mosque No. 1,” he added.

The festive gathering was hosted at The Michigan Farm on a bright, sunny day, matching the cheerful mood of those gathered to honor and respect a divine servant of Allah (God), who is worthy of honor. It was a special celebration for a special man.

Joined by his beautiful wife, lifelong companion, and helpmeet, Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, she and Minister Farrakhan smiled and greeted guests who anxiously extended well wishes and their love.

Guests traveled from around the country and were warmly welcomed by smiling hosts and hostesses in an exquisitely decorated, covered dining area.

Minister Farrakhan shared deeply spiritual and profound remarks and guidance on the rise of our people and our responsibility. It was truly a wonderful day of brotherhood and sisterhood.

Guests were also treated to a video presentation, “The Universal Truth,” highlighting Minister Farrakhan’s worldwide impact as the National Representative of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the Eternal Leader of the Nation of Islam.

Many guests shared pictures of the occasion on social media, accompanied by warm, heartfelt comments and reflections. “An amazing day with amazing people, celebrating the 93rd birthday of an amazing man; Minister Louis Farrakhan,” said Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Church in Chicago, on his Facebook page.
