WASHINGTON—The Nation of Islam Mid-Atlantic Region Student Protocol Department hosted a virtual program titled, “We Fell, We Rose, We Rebuilt, and Never To Fall Again.” More than 80 years of exciting and untold Mid-Atlantic history was revealed from 90-year-old Aqueelah Rashid Muhammad, 79-year-old Omar Muhammad, the late Askia Muhammad, Senior Editor for The Final Call newspaper, student ministers, coordinators and youth scholars.

Registered in the Nation of Islam in 1955, 90-year-old Aqueelah Rashid Muhammad, formerly Lilly 3X of Mosque No. 7, who currently attends Mosque No. 38 in Columbia, S.C., recalled meeting Mother Khadijah Farrakhan at their first MGT Class in New York. The MGT and GCC (Muslim Girls Training and General Civilization Class) are the women of the Nation of Islam.

“We were both excited about our class and we kept checking to make sure that we had our books,” said Sister Aqueelah. “And I remember being so happy when the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s instructions to any Believer who had been in the Nation of Islam 17 years or longer could have their name. I acted immediately and took the name Aqueelah Rashid,” she added.

Nine-year-old Ali Kamau Muhammad opened up the virtual program with the Al-Fatihah prayer in Arabic and English, which was followed by 13 youth history moderators and responders representing Muhammad University of Islam, home schools and college students.

Four-year old Karimah Aminah and six-year-old Tariq Aziz surprised their parents when asking them to chronicle North Charleston Study Group and South Carolina’s past events. Youth history moderators and responders included nine-year-old Samya Aaliyah; 12-year-old Zahirah Ilyasah; 11-year-old Eiliyah Ariel; 13-year-old Qiyamah; 19-year-old Rukayyah Ghazia; 21-year-old Fatimah Ain; 12-year-old West; Christopher X, 27; 19-year-old Jeanette; and 21-year-old Khairy.

The Student Protocol Department produced a 2021-2022 Souvenir Journal reflecting the Mid-Atlantic Region’s history. The virtual program, held in June, was part of the 12th Annual Mid-Atlantic Region Saviours’ Day Telethon.

“Our Nation of Islam is presently spinning the yarn into one fabric tightly knit together so that it will never fall again. Who are we that God would visit Us? We are the stone that builders rejected. God wants to make us the Headstone of the Corner,” said the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan on February 24, 1991 at Christ Universal Temple in Chicago.

Mid-Atlantic Region Student Minister Abdul Khadir Muhammad said, “We must become so tight that the enemy will flee from us. We are on our way to the top. Who are we? We are becoming, by the help of Allah, the wisest people that ever lived on the face of this Earth. We have Allah in the Person of Master W. Fard Muhammad, the Supreme Being, we have the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad as the Guide, Mahdi, and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan as the Messiah whose cup is so full that it runneth over.”

Brother Omar of Mosque No. 38, formerly known as Brother Leonard 11X, noted, “I met the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad in 1967 in Chicago and He would always say, ‘Brother, it is good to keep yourself busy. If you are sick, work; if you are broke, work.’ The Messenger hired me as the maintenance man at his apartment building and two years later, he asked me to drive him around. In 1971, The Messenger gave the Believers their new name!” he shouted out.

Believers from as far away as New York congratulated the young people on their outstanding performance and precise recordation of history during the virtual program.

WASHINGTON—The word of Muhammad Mosque No. 4 hosting a fresh Free Food Giveaway during Covid-19 spread like wildfire throughout the District of Maryland and Virginia. “Someone told me in passing that the Mosque was giving away free food,” said 84-year-old great-grandmother Juanita White. “So, I decided that I would be first in line,” she added. Residents were asked to wear masks, practice social distancing and to stay in their vehicles for drive thru pickup service on a first come, first served basis. 

On behalf of Master Fard Muhammad, the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, we thank Pennsylvania Farm for connecting Muhammad Mosque No. 4 to a local Baltimore, Maryland, pastor who donated 13 skids of fresh food, vegetables, milk, and chicken sausage.

Under the local leadership of Nation of Islam Mid-Atlantic Region Student Minister Abdul Khadir Muhammad and Mid-Atlantic Region Student FOI Captain Aaron Muhammad, 300 men, women, children, homeless, and the elderly gathered at the mosque, located on Pennsylvania Ave. to receive nutritious food. 

Many residents complained about the loss of income, homelessness and unemployment due to the effects of Covid-19. As Covid-19 continues to spread across America, Washington, D.C., has one of the lowest Covid-19 rates. According to a Sept. 6, WUSA9 news report, D.C.’s percent positivity rate has now been around 2.6 percent—its all-time low—for 10 days as of August 25, the most recent date for which data is available. The District has been averaging more than 4,000 new coronavirus tests a day over the past several weeks. 

“D.C. has continued to see declining numbers of Covid-19 patients in its hospitals. As of Sept. 7, D.C. health reports only 71 hospital beds in the District are now being used by coronavirus patients. The District began in August with 102 hospitalized Covid-19 patients,” continued WUSA9 News.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the FOI moved cars swiftly from Branch Ave., S.E., to the drive-thru, and even a few taxicabs were seen waiting to get free food. Student Minister Abdul Khadir Muhammad helped with directing traffic, while Student Secretary Dirickson Muhammad delivered food. 

“Simultaneously cars were pulling up as if they were driving through a carwash. Back doors and trunks opened up to receive large boxes of fresh vegetables, milk, fruits, and chicken sausage. FOI and MGT were covering down, saying ‘one more box coming down on the right,’ explained Minister Khadir Muhammad. “It was as if Brother Aaron had the FOI and MGT drilling and we all were in very high spirits. One lady took boxes to the bus stop and jumped on the bus.  ‘Y’all got chicken sausage?’ someone asked. ‘Can I have another box?’ asked another person. The answer from the FOI and MGT, was always the same,” Student Minister Khadir continued. The answer from the Muslims was “yes ma’am and yes sir,” he shared. “It was a glorious day and one of which, the Lord had made,” said Student Minister Khadir. 

Just as the drive thru food program was winding down, a person shouting from a passing car asked about bean pies, a Nation of Islam staple, and of course the FOI were able to serve them. 

“The FOI and MGT worked cheerfully to serve the community and it showed in the responses that we received as we distributed needed food items,” said Brother Aaron Muhammad. 

“All of this was possible because of the love, care and concern from the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. He taught us to serve the community with respect. All of the members of the human family who were present expressed extreme happiness over the fresh and nutritional food choices that we offered and some even asked for seconds. There were Blacks, Whites and Latino families standing in line waiting to be served,” Brother Aaron added.
