Opposition doesn’t stop God’s servants

When Minister Farrakhan launched the Millions More Movement I thought to interview him to contribute to the public’s understanding of the ultimate origin of this idea and why opposition against it will be fruitless. The following is that interview, conducted on October 9, 2005, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Brother Jabril: Brother Minister, I have two questions that bear on what sits up under the Millions More Movement. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad referred to you as his lead Minister. First, what do you think he meant by “lead?”

Minister Farrakhan: Well I can’t say what was in his mind when he said that. I would have to ask him, but he did call me like a lead wire. I looked that up. A “lead wire” is, I think, a wire that’s connected to a generator. The lead wire breaks the current down so that other things will not be overwhelmed by surges of energy that they cannot handle. I would assume that a lead minister is one who would forge the way for others. As the Minister is under the direct control of Master Fard Muhammad and His Messiah (the Honorable Elijah Muhammad), as They feed me, then the energy is transmitted, broken down in such a way that other ministers can get the energy from that generating source broken down through the lead minister or the lead wire. Again, he said, “Blessed are those who forge the way for others.” The Bible talks about no man’s visage was more scarred or marred than that particular prophet because he opened the way for others. When God calls upon you to introduce a revolutionary concept, or idea, that takes the struggle to a new level, then you have to bear the burden of the opposition. You have to bear the burden of those who malign the new idea thinking it is this or it is that.

On radio this morning, I spoke to the people of the beautiful island of Jamaica. I mentioned three things that come up when you come up with an idea. Number one; the timeliness of the idea.

Number two; the persons who would embody the idea. Number three; the opposition to the idea (and to the persons) who embodies or promotes or promulgates or espouses the idea.

The idea is thoroughly tested by the person who advances it. He is thoroughly tested by the opposition to the idea and those with him are thoroughly tested. When the opposition finds that they cannot uproot the idea, it’s because it’s an idea whose time has come.

The right person is the embodiment of the idea. The right persons are the believers and practitioners of the idea and therefore, they overcome all opposition to the idea and then the idea is established.

I think that that’s maybe what he means by referring to the Minister as his “lead” Minister.

Brother Jabril: Could it also have to do with the Minister’s constitution, his heart and his physical ability to handle the message itself?

Minister Farrakhan: Well the Qur’an answers that in these words: “Allah knows best where to place His message.” So since He is the Originator of the message, and the Originator of the person who bears the message, and He knows the weight of the message, and what constitution that person must have to carry the weight of that message, and the weight of the mission that is to be imposed by the message, and the degree of opposition that would come because of the nature of the message, then He knows best the constitution of the person, the heart of the person, the spirit, mind and soul of the person. That’s why He does not leave the choosing to others. He makes the choice Himself.

Brother Jabril: Your answers lay the basis for what I’m driving towards. You’ve told us, on the web cast, what caused you to make the decision that generated The Millions More Movement. Please retrace it.

Minister Farrakhan: Questions were asked, “Minister what you are going to do for the 10th Anniversary of The Million Man March?” And I said, “Nothing.” I wasn’t planning to do anything. The Million Man March is what it is, was what it was. It’s foolish to try to duplicate something that God gave us, at that moment in time that did what it did. Only unwise people try to duplicate what was, but persons who understand what was can build on what was to create what is needed for the new moment.

So, after saying that I had nothing in mind, but I thought again about the suffering of our people. I thought about the valley of the shadow of death that our people have entered and the devastation in all of the systems, that make up this world and the life that we have adopted, which the Bible says, “There’s a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death.”

Then Isaiah the prophet, as taught by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad said that, “Your covenant, your agreement with hell will not stand and your covenant with death will be annulled.”

Well, when a covenant has been made it takes a great power to break it. To annul something means that there is an actor, or actors, who have the power to break a bond that has been covenanted or agreed to by both parties.

Now having said that I began to think on something that the Honorable Elijah Muhammad had me to do 32, now 33 years ago. He sent me to New York to bring back the learned of our people to help him save the Nation. He said he had invested the poor people’s money and we were in danger of losing everything that he had invested of the poor people’s money, in the various business ventures that we have started because of poor management.

He offered me $10,000 if I would go and bring the learned to help him save the Nation. Well, I told him that, “Dear Holy Apostle, I don’t want the money to do it. I’ll be honored to go and do that.”
